Federal Tax Expertise

Jones Hall tax partner David Walton, is a recognized expert in federal tax law as it relates to municipal finance and the complex rules and regulations governing the exemption of interest on municipal bond from federal taxation.  David was the attorney advisor on tax-exempt bonds for the United States Treasury Department prior to joining the firm in 1992.  During his two years with the Treasury, David played a key role in revising reimbursement rules and in the new allocation and accounting provisions, and has been widely praised by the industry for helping to make tax-exempt bond rules simpler and more workable. 

 

David is an extraordinary tax attorney in his willingness to work with our clients to achieve their objectives while ensuring compliance with federal tax law.  He provides federal tax advice and support in all financings for which the firm acts as bond counsel, and our clients have immediate access to him during and after the issuance of the bonds.  David also represents municipal issuers as special tax counsel special projects, including IRS audits and obtaining private letter rulings and similar guidance from the IRS.
